As a Combat Rescue Operator, you will be responsible for providing personnel recovery to the forces in order to minimise loss of life by rescuing within a combat or permissive environment.

As a key member of the Royal Australian Engineers, you will be responsible for assisting our own forces to move and provide survivability options whilst also denying mobility to the enemy. You will be trained in a broad range of tasks to enable you to conduct mobility and counter mobility operations, including the provision and construction of survivability options for the deployed force.

The main job functions of a Combat Rescue Specialist include:

  • Providing a deployable Joint Personnel Recovery capability to the force
  • Conducting mounted and dismounted rescue operations in a threat environment
  • Conducting hazard mitigation to effect personnel rescue, including fire or hazardous materials
  • Controlling and co-ordinating on scene personnel recovery operations
  • Conducting extraction of personnel from military platforms, including aircraft, trucks and armoured vehicles
  • Conducting technical rope rescue, confined space and sub terrain rescue operations
  • Conducting helicopter insertion and extraction techniques
  • Providing combat first aid and resuscitation to the injured

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement personnel recovery plans to ensure the safe extraction of personnel from combat or permissive environments
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards and develop mitigation strategies
  • Collaborate with other units to provide a comprehensive personnel recovery capability
  • Provide training and guidance to other personnel on personnel recovery procedures and techniques
