Senior HST Advisor Role

About the Opportunity:

This exciting role is for an experienced professional to lead our Health, Safety, and Training (HST) team at Wambo Complex site. As a Senior HST Advisor, you will play a key part in ensuring ongoing compliance with health, safety, training, and risk management obligations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead Site-Level Safety Initiatives: Develop and implement effective safety strategies to maintain a safe working environment.
  2. Conduct Incident Investigations: Investigate incidents, document findings, and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  3. Facilitate WHS Committees: Chair or participate in Work Health and Safety (WHS) committees to ensure open communication and collaboration among team members.
  4. Conduct Risk Assessments: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize harm to employees and the environment.
  5. Monitor SHMS Implementation: Ensure that our Site Health Management System (SHMS) is implemented effectively and updated regularly.
  6. Coordinate Health Monitoring Programs: Oversee programs to monitor employee health and well-being, including respirable dust, silica, noise, and other contaminants.
  7. Support Emergency Response Planning: Develop and maintain emergency response plans to ensure timely responses to incidents.
  8. Ensure Timely Reporting: Monitor and report on HST Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), metrics, and incident statistics.
  9. Lead Mental Health Initiatives: Promote mental health awareness and develop initiatives to support employee well-being.
  10. Manage Training Systems: Administer our Training Management System (Pegasus) to ensure accurate and up-to-date training records.
  11. Conduct Training Needs Analysis: Identify training needs and develop programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge.
  12. Maintain Accurate Records: Ensure that training records, assessments, and refresher tracking are accurate and up-to-date.
  13. Support Compliance: Assist in maintaining compliance with training requirements, including Order 34 and Maintenance of Competency.
  14. Coordinate Training Delivery: Arrange on-site and external training sessions to meet employee development needs.
  15. Administer HST Systems: Troubleshoot access issues, coach users, and provide training on system functionality for SAP EHS, SharePoint, and Onsite TrackEasy.
  16. Maintain Document Control: Ensure that electronic and hard-copy HST documents are stored, secured, and version controlled in line with company standards.
  17. Complete Audits: Conduct regular audits of systems and document control processes to identify areas for improvement.
  18. Support Injury Management: Collaborate with Coal Mines Insurance and health professionals to manage active cases and promote return-to-work initiatives.
  19. Facilitate Health Programs: Coordinate site health programs, such as flu vaccinations, physio, and skin checks, to promote employee well-being.
  20. Contribute to Reporting: Provide input to corporate HST reporting requirements to ensure accurate representation of site performance.
  21. Assist in Budget Preparation: Support the preparation of HST budgets and cost tracking to optimize resource allocation.
  22. Support Regulatory Reviews: Participate in regulatory reviews and audits to ensure compliance with industry standards.

Work Environment:

This position offers a Monday-to-Friday roster with one rostered day off per month, allowing for a residential lifestyle.

About You:

  • Previous experience in safety, training, and systems coordination in mining or heavy industry
  • Experience administering Pegasus, SAP EHS, or SharePoint
  • Understanding of NSW Coal HSMS requirements
  • Minimum Certificate IV in WHS
  • G2 (Risk Assessment) or equivalent
  • ICAM investigation training
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122) (desirable)
  • RTW Coordinator Certification (Desirable)
  • Manage First Aid Certificate (Desirable)
