Off-grid Conservation Opportunities

This conservation program focuses on restoring protected natural ecosystems in New Zealand, protecting native species and creating an environment for endangered birds to thrive.

The team works with the Department of Conservation to protect and monitor wildlife, create access trails, control invasive species and plant native trees.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Track cutting and marking
  • Bait station installation, refilling and monitoring
  • Wildlife monitoring (kiwi, kokako, rodents)
  • Other related conservation activities
Working Schedule and Accommodations

A typical day includes breakfast from 8 am to 9 am, clean-up from 9 am to 9:30 am, morning work activities from 10 am to 12 pm, lunch from 12 pm to 1 pm, afternoon work activities from 1 pm to 4 pm, free time from 4 pm to 6 pm, dinner from 6 pm to 8 pm and leisure activities from 8 pm to 10 pm.

Accommodation and meals are included in the program fee. Volunteers need to arrange their own flights, travel insurance, personal spending and visas.
