About the Role:

The Chief Finance Officer (CFO) is a critical leadership position within the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (ACQSC), reporting to the Deputy Commissioner Corporate. The CFO will work collaboratively to deliver financial and business services that support the achievement of the Commission's strategic and operational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial leadership and guidance to the Corporate Division and across the Commission.
  • Ensure the effective financial management of all Commission activities, including property portfolio management.
  • Provide accurate and timely financial reporting to the Executive Leadership Group.
  • Ensure compliance with financial requirements and accounting standards, including the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability (PGPA) Act 2013.
  • Lead the Finance Branch to improve integration of financial services and systems across the organisation.
  • Support the introduction and embedding of contemporary business practices that meet the current and future needs of the Commission.

Requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and completed professional qualifications (CA or CPA Program).
  • A strong demonstrated understanding of current accounting standards, Commonwealth budget processes, audit requirements, and financial reporting rules.
  • A strong financial management capability demonstrated in an accrual accounting environment, including the preparation of financial statements, development of financial policies, and preparation of estimates and budget information.
  • The ability to develop innovative and timely solutions to address the needs of stakeholders and the organisation.
  • A well-developed ability to analyse and interpret complex annual financial statements and periodic financial reports, and to communicate this to a non-technical audience.
  • A strong demonstrated capability to anticipate, monitor and advise on emerging financial management issues, legislation and standards.
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, openly and effectively, together with a pragmatic and solution-focused approach to negotiation.
  • The ability to establish and maintain relationships with staff, stakeholders and clients at all levels.
