Job Description:

Clinical psychologists in forensic mental health settings work with individuals who have complex and challenging needs. They are responsible for conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, and providing interventions to help individuals manage their mental health.

The role of a clinical psychologist in forensic mental health is diverse and requires strong communication and interpersonal skills. They must be able to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including healthcare professionals, social workers, and law enforcement personnel.

As a clinical psychologist in forensic mental health, you will have the opportunity to work with a range of populations, including those with intellectual disabilities, personality disorders, and substance use disorders. You will also have the chance to develop your expertise in areas such as risk assessment, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed care.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from an APAC accredited course or equivalent
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA)
  • Skills in clinical assessment, including the administration and interpretation of psychological tests designed to assess personality, psychopathology, intelligence and cognitive functioning
  • Skills in providing individual or group treatment with patients with mental illness, emotional problems, and/or behavioural problems
  • Knowledge and interest in clinical forensic psychology including forensic assessments (i.e., court ordered assessments, assessment of risk for violence) and intervention with justice-involved individuals or those presenting as at risk of harmful behaviours OR Knowledge in clinical neuropsychology including comprehensive assessment of cognitive and psychosocial functioning
