About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Pattern Approval Engineer to join our team at the Department of Industry, Science and Resources. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for evaluating and certifying measuring instruments to ensure they meet national requirements and international standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate technical documentation, including test reports and user manuals, to determine the suitability of measuring instruments for trade or legal purposes.
  • Conduct laboratory and field testing of measuring instruments to ensure compliance with technical standards and processes.
  • Support business improvement projects, business planning, and performance reporting within the section.
  • Prepare and publish legal technical pattern approval documents.
  • Maintain accurate and auditable records of assessments and client correspondence.
  • Communicate effectively with clients regarding the progress and results of pattern approval applications.
  • Respond to enquiries from potential clients and other stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.
Requirements
  • Engineering background and/or professional qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform laboratory and field-based testing of measuring instruments in accordance with documented procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate information and make recommendations for approval in accordance with legislative, financial, and administrative frameworks.
  • Demonstrated communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities, problem solve, think critically, and demonstrate sound decision making.
