Job Description

The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations is seeking an experienced Senior Data Scientist to lead a team of researchers and analysts in the VET Outcomes and System Performance Section.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction of the team's research and analysis program, conducting independent research and analysis on the VET system's performance, including student outcomes and training activity.

You will be responsible for leading a geographically dispersed team to develop research plans and methodology, through to the dissemination and presentation of research findings.

The ideal candidate will have high-level data analysis skills, including advanced proficiency with R (or similar) and SQL, experience in working with large administrative data sets, and excellent written and visual communication skills.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • High level data analysis skills, including advanced proficiency with R (or similar) and SQL
  • Experience in working with large administrative data sets (e.g., PLIDA)
  • Ability to lead a geographically dispersed team of researchers and analysts
  • Excellent written and visual communication skills
  • Knowledge of the Australian tertiary education system and related government policy
