Role Overview

About the role: In this position, you will have the opportunity to provide essential support to clients in maintaining their homes, enabling them to live independently for as long as possible. By offering hands-on assistance with daily living tasks and home modifications, you will play a vital role in preventing unnecessary residential care admissions and enhancing the quality of life for both clients and their carers.

Work type: Temporary full-time (5-month contract)
Classification: Band 4 $69,560 – 74,316 pa plus super

Key Responsibilities:

  • Aid clients in performing home maintenance tasks that enhance their ability to remain in their own home.
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Therapists' requirements and Australian Standard 1428 – 1993 'Design Rules for Access by the Disabled'.
  • Operate various equipment and tools, including chain saws, power tools, pipe benders, and arc welding equipment.
  • Make on-the-spot decisions regarding alterations in disability aid fitments and/or maintenance tasks.
  • Complete work schedules and/or rosters within a timely manner.
  • Ensure proper planning, ordering, and fitting of disability aids.

Your Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, you will possess a Building or Carpentry qualification, as well as manual Metal Arc Welding 1 (Module NF01 or equivalent) and Level 2 First Aid Certificate. You will also have:

  • Several years of experience in home modification, including carpentry, concreting, and welding.
  • Knowledge and skills in working with the frail aged, people with dementia, people with disabilities, or other complex care needs, their carers, and families.
  • Proven ability to quote and draft plans.
  • Working knowledge of safe work practices in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Agreements.
  • Preferred candidates will undergo a National Police Check and pre-employment medical assessment as part of the recruitment process.
