The Role

As a Mine Geologist, you'll be the key interpreter between resource and operation.

  • Lead coal mined and crushed performance for productivity, quality, and handleability through processing.
  • Ensure coal recovery meets reserved tonnages and qualities.
  • Conduct routine pit and stockpile inspections to provide guidance and feedback to planning and production teams on coal mining practices.
  • Provide daily coal mining, stockpiling, and feed plans in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Offer coal exposure and mining guidance through plans and directly to operations.
  • Maintain in-pit and ROM coal inventory movements for up-to-date short-term scheduling.
  • Enhance reconciliation processes.
  • Assist in conventional mine geology processes of data collection, interpretation.
  • Undertake projects and investigations, identifying improvement initiatives.
  • Work across software to review existing information, collect new information, generate databases relevant to modelling, mine designs, coal quality, recovery.
  • Improve and develop the role, site systems, and processes over time.

What We're Looking For

  • A degree in Geology, Mining Engineering, or demonstrated relevant experience.
  • Open Cut Coal mining geology experience, preferably in the Hunter Valley or multi-seam mining.
  • Experience in a coal mining or coal planning role.
  • An understanding of coal quality / beneficiation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work well with people from all backgrounds at all levels within the business.
  • Ability to turn data and observations into clear, practical advice.
  • Confidence with numbers, writing, and using geological software/tool.
  • Safety-focused and systems-oriented.
  • Always looking for ways to improve and work smarter.
  • Comfortable speaking up and driving performance.
  • Team player with a proactive, can-do attitude.

Requirements

  • Geology, Mining Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
  • Coal mining industry experience.
  • Strong knowledge of coal quality, beneficiation, and mine design principles.
  • Proven leadership and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
