Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant curriculum, incorporating literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in responding to student learning needs.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing high-impact teaching strategies guided by how students learn, evaluating the impact of learning and teaching programs on student learning growth.
  • Demonstrated experience in monitoring and assessing student learning, using data to inform teaching practice, and providing feedback on student learning growth and achievement to students and parents.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the broader school community to support student learning, agency, wellbeing, and engagement.
  • Demonstrated behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values, reflecting upon practice, and engaging in professional learning to continually improve teaching quality.

Classroom Teacher Responsibilities

The primary focus of the classroom teacher is on planning, preparation, and teaching programs to achieve specific student outcomes. Classroom teachers engage in critical reflection and inquiry to improve knowledge and skills, effectively engaging students and improving their learning. As they gain experience, their contribution to the school program beyond the classroom increases, with all classroom teachers required to undertake additional duties appropriate to their qualifications, training, and experience.
