Farm Operator Job Description

Mitolo Family Farms is seeking a highly motivated Farm Operator to join our team in Virginia, SA.

  • Farm Operations: The successful candidate will be responsible for operating tractors and other farming equipment for planting, cultivation, and harvesting of potatoes. They will also assist with ground preparation, including soil tilling, irrigation setup, and planting.

The Opportunity:

This role plays a key part in all facets of our farming operations. You will work closely with the Farm Manager and collaborate with the farm team to meet production goals and maintain high-quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Operate tractors and other farming equipment for planting, cultivation, and harvesting of potatoes.
  2. Assist with ground preparation, including soil tilling, irrigation setup, and planting.
  3. Monitor crop health and assist in pest and weed management practices.
  4. Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
  5. Support the harvesting process, including operating machinery and ensuring proper handling of crops.
  6. Assist with loading, unloading, and transporting harvested crops to storage or distribution sites.
  7. Ensure adherence to safety protocols and environmental regulations on the farm.
  8. Keep accurate records of farming activities, equipment usage, and crop yields.
Requirements:
  1. Proven experience operating tractors and farm machinery, preferably in potato farming or similar agricultural environments.
  2. Strong understanding of farming practices, including soil preparation, irrigation, and crop management.
  3. Ability to perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on farming equipment.
  4. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to monitor and maintain crop health.
  5. Physical fitness and stamina to work long hours in outdoor and varying weather conditions.
  6. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  7. Commitment to safety and following all farm safety protocols and guidelines.
  8. A proactive attitude with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and tasks.
