Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and culturally sensitive Child Safety Specialist to work with Aboriginal families in New England. This role involves addressing safety and well-being concerns through collaborative problem-solving, home visits, and developing safety plans.

  • Develop strong relationships with parents, family members, children or young people, and work collaboratively with other agencies.
  • Assist families in formulating goals that align with their needs, address safety and well-being concerns, and provide appropriate assistance through home visits.
  • Develop safety plans, complete risk assessments, and manage cases and situations involving high needs and high-risk clients.
  • Be involved in court processes, including the preparation of court documents and attending court hearings.
  • Participate in individual and group supervision, and contribute to a team dedicated to keeping families together.

As a Child Safety Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting the safety and well-being of Aboriginal children and families in our community. We value your expertise, cultural knowledge, and commitment to making a positive impact.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A relevant diploma or degree qualification in social work, child protection, or a related field.
  • At least two years' experience working with vulnerable children, young people, and their families, preferably in an Aboriginal context.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with families and communities.
  • A valid driver's license and a paid Working with Children clearance number.
  • Documented verification of Aboriginality confirming your identity as an Aboriginal person.

This role is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
