The Reject Shop is a leading Australian discount variety retailer with over 380 stores nationally. We pride ourselves on our supportive team culture and customer-centric approach, delivering the best value and variety possible.
We are seeking a skilled Buyer to join our Merchandise team, responsible for one of our largest categories in the consumables department. This role is a hybrid position, working in the office Monday to Wednesday.
The successful candidate will be accountable for delivering a profitable category, driving and developing key supplier relationships, and executing our customer-centric category strategy.
A Day in the Role:
- Develop and implement a strategy to ensure great quality, value, and experience for our customers.
- Drive simple, consistent, and efficient processes to achieve our Low-Cost model.
- Grow profitable sales for the portfolio by winning customers with a market-leading proposition.
- Develop a customer-centric category vision through a strategic approach to deliver the Product and Price directive.
- Lead category transformation and drive sales performance in line with budget forecasts and last year's results.
- Remove duplication and range fringe to deliver the simplest customer proposition.
- Deliver KPIs of sales and profit to budget.
- Bring innovative new concepts to the category.
- Develop supplier negotiations and lead negotiations.
- Ensure all products are purchased in line with Australian quality standards.
- Achieve markdowns, stock turns, and fast-turning inventory.

- Proven experience in retail buying, preferably within FMCG.
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to build effective relationships with suppliers.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret sales data and market trends.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Results-driven and proactive, with a passion for delivering value to customers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software applications.
