This role involves developing scholarly research and professional expertise relevant to the profession or discipline. It contributes to the research efforts of the school through undertaking fieldwork, laboratory work, data analysis, and production of peer-reviewed publications and technical reports.
- Conducting innovative research on cephalopod locomotion and biomechanics is a key aspect of this role.
- Leading and collaborating on original research projects addressing pressing issues in marine ecosystems and biodiversity.
- Designing and carrying out field studies locally and internationally on cephalopod energetics and biomechanics.
- Carrying out experiments under laboratory conditions to advance our understanding of cephalopod locomotion and energetics.
- Processing and interpreting complex environmental and biological datasets using advanced statistical, modelling, or GIS techniques.
- Preparing high-quality research articles, reports, and presentations for peer-reviewed journals, conferences, stakeholder meetings, and public outreach.
- Securing competitive funding through proposal writing and expanding the research program's impact.
- Fostering partnerships with universities, government agencies, NGOs, Indigenous communities, and international collaborators to enhance research outcomes and knowledge exchange.
- Guiding postgraduate students, junior researchers, and interns in laboratory methods, field techniques, and academic development.
A strong background in marine science or a closely related area is essential for this role, as well as experience in the use of biologging data, computer programming languages, and other relevant skills.
