Job Opportunity:

Embedding Indigenous Knowledge Systems in Research Projects

Culturally grounded professionals are sought to lead a significant initiative, guiding the ethical integration of Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property principles into collections policy, governance, and practice.

  • Oversee the delivery of an Indigenous co-designed research project, including strategic planning, implementation, coordination, and delivery of outputs in line with reporting and governance requirements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to centre Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges, priorities, and governance.
  • Support the effective operation of the established Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Reference Group, ensuring culturally respectful processes and timely provision of information.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Planning: Develop and implement project plans that align with national and international policy frameworks.
  2. Project Coordination: Collaborate with teams to deliver project activities, ensure timely provision of information, and integrate guidance into project decisions and deliverables.
  3. Relationship Building: Foster relationships with Indigenous Science and Engagement teams to strengthen partnerships and identify opportunities for mutually beneficial research collaborations.
  4. Cultural Capability: Identify cultural capability gaps across teams and work with internal experts to guide appropriate development.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in leading culturally grounded projects or programs that centre Indigenous knowledge systems, community priorities, or cultural governance.
  • Foundational understanding of IDSov and ICIP, and the ability to lead and apply these principles in science, research, or data contexts.
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills, including demonstrated trust-based work with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.
