What Awaits You:Position: Estimator
Location: Redfern Office
The Works Estimator is tasked with overseeing the estimation of works for new tenders and ongoing projects by developing rates, schedules, quantities, and pricing across various project types involving both Water and Wastewater assets. The Works Estimator collaborates with the Construction and Delivery Team to create estimates for a variety of treatment and network infrastructure assets. These assets may include pump stations, mechanical and electrical upgrades or renewals for treatment plants, and chemical dosing or odour control systems.
Key Responsibilities:- Collaborate with in-house Design, Construction, Safety, Proposals, and management teams to ensure precise and timely estimation of works.
- Implement project cost estimation standards, procedures, and tools aligned with D4C objectives.
- Maintain a benchmarking framework/database for projects, providing trend analysis and information to enhance cost methodologies.
- Conduct benchmarking for cost comparison, utilizing first principles, past projects, and various other sources.
- Keep supplier and pricing schedule databases updated with current pricing.
- Assist in preparing cost plans, tenders, and budget estimates as needed.
- Deliver high-quality analytical support for the preparation of project cost plans, budget estimates, tenders, and business cases in a timely manner.
- Ensure appropriate resources are applied to build up the estimation.
- Understand the scope, material take-off, technical details, and plant processes.
- Consistently work safely and in accordance with D4C and Sydney Water HSEQ requirements, supporting the mission of Delivering Differently.
- Comprehend Cost Breakdown and Work Breakdown structure, significance, and application.
- Exhibit strong attention to detail and time management skills to prioritize and meet deliverable deadlines.
- Provide analytical support for regular reviews and validation of Cost Planning and estimates, highlighting potential issues to the Lead Estimator.
- Assist with bid reviews to verify the accuracy of cost estimation and identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with the construction team to gather site feedback for future project estimations.
- Engage with clients to align on methodologies and work breakdowns.
- Conduct site visits as necessary to gain a better understanding of scope and access issues.
- Exercise sound judgment in managing confidential and sensitive information that could impact D4C's performance and reputation.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Mechatronics preferred).
- Current Driver's License - Desirable.
- Experience in Quantity Surveying/Estimation.
- Experience working on major projects within the infrastructure sector.
- Exposure to or additional qualifications in Project/Construction management is advantageous.
