As we progress in our mission to assist all Australians, we are excited to announce an opening for a Junior Buyer to become a part of our Merchandise Team.

In this role, you will work under the mentorship of a Buyer, taking charge of a specific category within General Merchandise. Your goal will be to drive profitable sales by gaining a deep understanding of customer preferences, which will be achieved through building strong supplier relationships and implementing a customer-focused category strategy.

This position offers a hybrid work model, with office attendance required from Monday to Wednesday.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the category Buyer in managing a small category line while providing overall support to the Buyer and the wider category team.
  • Achieving sales and profit KPIs for your designated category in alignment with budget expectations.
  • Introducing innovative concepts and opportunities that align with the TRS strategy.
  • Identifying and managing risks and opportunities, while effectively communicating business challenges.
  • Collaborating with the Buyer to maintain supplier relationships and develop long-term partnerships that enhance customer experience and reduce costs.
  • Creating sourcing strategies aimed at achieving the lowest possible costs.
  • Participating in supplier negotiations.
  • Providing buying support and managing sample administration.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and attributes:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a retail Merchandise role, with a proven track record in managing a small category.
  • Experience with products, preferably in a General Merchandise, Home, or Kitchenware context.
  • Proficiency in the MS Office suite, particularly intermediate Excel skills, along with Word and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Analytical abilities to make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with relevant stakeholders.
