
Payroll Operations Manager

The role of the Payroll Operations Manager is to lead and support the payroll team in ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing. This includes overseeing payroll operations, monitoring and implementing changes to awards and legislation, working closely with Payroll Systems and HRIS teams, leading control and compliance activities, providing technical support, coordinating training and onboarding, and contributing to ongoing payroll process improvements.
- Lead and support the payroll team to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing.
- Oversee payroll operations including master data maintenance, payroll production, statutory reporting, and payment processing in line with compliance requirements and Service Level Agreements.
- Monitor and implement changes to awards, enterprise agreements, and relevant legislation, ensuring appropriate application and communication.
- Work closely with Payroll Systems and HRIS teams to support seamless system operation and resolve technical issues.
- Lead control and compliance activities including audits, control verifications, and reporting to ensure governance and mitigate risk.
- Provide technical support to the team, including resolving escalated queries and complex payroll issues in collaboration with HR and Finance.
- Coordinate training, onboarding, and capability development for payroll team members, maintaining relevant training documentation and plans.
- Contribute to ongoing payroll process improvements and support integration projects including acquisitions or system upgrades.
- Track and report on key metrics including Service Level Agreements, case resolution times, overpayments, and recovery efforts.
- Extensive payroll supervisory experience with a strong understanding of legislative and compliance requirements.
- Technical expertise in payroll systems and processes, including knowledge of industrial awards and enterprise agreements.
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, with the capacity to manage change and balance competing priorities.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with a focus on professionalism and attention to detail.
