Monash Health has established a new inter-professional team in the Emergency Department to provide specialized and integrated care to patients presenting with high acuity mental health and substance use issues.
This service, called the Mental Health and Substance Use Response or EMAAP, is located within the emergency department and offers a seven-day-a-week, extended hours service.
About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse/Midwife Consultant (CNC C) with management experience to join our Emergency Department and lead the development, implementation, and coordination of the ED Mental Health & Substance Use Response Model of Care.
The successful candidate will bring advanced clinical expertise and leadership to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care for individuals presenting in crisis.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide expert clinical assessment, consultation, and treatment for patients presenting with mental health, substance use, and psychosocial needs.
- Lead the development, implementation, and coordination of the ED Mental Health & Substance Use Response Model of Care.
- Offer clinical supervision, guidance, and mentoring to nursing and multidisciplinary team members.
- Foster strong, collaborative relationships with ED staff, emergency psychiatric services, allied health professionals, and external partners.
- Oversee patient flow, service capacity, and safe care delivery, ensuring adherence to best practice and relevant legislation.
- Drive quality improvement initiatives, service evaluation, and professional development across the team.
In addition to clinical leadership, the CNC Manager will also be responsible for:
- Staff recruitment, onboarding, and workforce planning.
- Staff development, supervision, and performance discussions.
- Leave and roster management.
- Supporting a positive workplace culture and staff well-being.
