Facilities Maintenance Technician Role:

This role involves maintaining the general appearance of school facilities. The successful applicant will undertake basic maintenance and repairs tasks, including toilet repairs, carpentry tasks, fixtures and fittings, moving furniture, and maintaining school gardens and play areas.

This is a part-time position, working 1 day per week, with hours from 7:00am to 3:06pm (start time negotiable). Attendance may be required throughout holiday periods.

  • Follow a work schedule to care and maintain school buildings, both internal and external.
  • Undertake minor maintenance tasks, including repairs to toilets, basic carpentry tasks, and upkeep of the hydrotherapy pool.
  • Inspect facilities to identify maintenance issues.
  • Cycle preventative maintenance jobs as scheduled.
  • Undertake minor grounds work and upkeep of gardens and playground area.
  • Liaise with tradespeople and contractors as required.
  • Organise and track inventory of trade supplies for building, plumbing and electrical repairs.
  • Purchase and pick up goods/materials from offsite locations.
  • Participate in team events and functions.
  • E nsure environmental sustainability is practised.

Responsibilities:

  • Undertake general maintenance and minor works around school buildings and grounds to a high standard.
  • Provide additional cleaning when required, including graffiti removal.
  • Safely operate machinery and equipment as required.
  • Maintain safe work practices at all times.
  • Assess and prioritise job requests in the Maintenance Register.
  • Liaise with the Principal and Business Manager on works to be completed.
  • Order and purchase goods and equipment as required.
  • Ensure Occupational Health and Safety requirements are met while working.
  • Monitor and report on any security issues.
  • Move furniture and equipment as required.
  • Minor cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
  • Ensure storage areas are in a clean, safe and orderly condition.
  • Carry out regular visual inspections of roofs, roof guttering, drains, toilets, sinks and troughs to identify and rectify problems.
  • Any other minor repairs, such as new locks, minor plumbing and carpentry.
  • Application of chemicals as appropriate for the control of weeds and insects.
  • General clean up of paths and outdoor areas of the school grounds.
  • A strong understanding of maintenance practices and procedures.
  • Ability to follow a work schedule and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety principles.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use software applications.
