The Assistant Principal plays a pivotal role in the school's leadership team, supporting the Principal in the development and implementation of educational programs that cater to the diverse needs of students.
Reporting directly to the Principal, the Assistant Principal is responsible for managing significant areas or functions within the school, ensuring the effective provision and evaluation of the education program.
This includes making key decisions related to the program, budget, and staff, all while aligning with the school's strategic plan, policies, and budget.
Assistant Principals contribute to the overall management of the school through their involvement in policy formulation and decision-making processes.
In this role, they will have the authority to analyze student needs and translate state educational policies into tailored programs to meet these needs.
Typically, Assistant Principals are responsible for utilizing teaching staff and program budgets effectively, overseeing educational programs provided by these resources.
Key Responsibilities:- Supervision and coordination of senior curriculum coordinators;
- Allocation of budgets, positions of responsibility, and other resources;
- Supervision of teaching program delivery;
- Management of professional development programs for staff;
- Responsibility for general discipline matters beyond classroom teachers and year level coordinators;
- Contributing to the overall management of the school.
Assistant Principals must possess exceptional leadership skills, including visionary educational leadership and change management capabilities.
They should demonstrate strong financial, organizational, and resource management skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
A highly developed capacity to motivate staff, develop talents, and build an effective team is essential, along with the ability to foster a learning environment that caters to individual student needs.
Assistant Principals should be appropriately qualified individuals currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
