Operational Forecasting Expert

This is a key role within our Operational Support division, responsible for the short-term forecasts that feed into operational and market systems in the National Electricity Market (NEM) and Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM).

">About the Role
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve forecast models for electricity demand, distributed photovoltaics (PV), and variable renewable energy generation.
  • Collaborate with teams to translate weather risks into system impacts and ensure operators have the information they need.
  • Coordinate across markets to align tools, data, and forecasting processes.
  • Contribute insights into operational advisories, power system incident reviews, and market reports.
  • Support upgrades of forecasting applications to improve performance and reliability.
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in science, engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or a related statistical discipline.
  • Experience in the energy sector or similar industry, preferably in an operations, forecasting, or analytical role.
  • Clear and confident communication skills, including experience preparing high-quality reports and presentations.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and statistical modelling techniques.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
