Job Description

The Senior Defence Contracts Specialist is a critical member of the Supply Chain Team, responsible for delivering end-to-end defence contracts management support to projects and programs.

This role requires an active participant in the team, supporting senior stakeholders in service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and manage defence contracts management processes, including planning, sourcing, tendering, evaluation, negotiation, execution, management, and delivery.
  • Perform supply chain risk assessments, undertake due diligence tasks, participate in make/buy decision-making, and provide expert knowledge in support of capture/bid/project teams.
  • Engage with commercial and legal teams to determine applicable contract requirements for potential defence contracts.
  • Develop project-specific special conditions and work with legal on drafting contract templates to ensure compliance with commercial obligations upstream.
  • Assist in assessing and down-selecting contractors during pre-'Win Business' phase using relevant company processes.
  • Prepare briefings for gate reviews and organize contract execution in accordance with guidance from senior stakeholders.
  • Develop project-specific procurement strategies and plans and support the project in drafting scope-specific RFP suites of documents.
  • Provide support to other contracts and procurement team members.
  • Support programme managers and programme leadership with reviews, analyses, and reporting, and optimizing established defence contracts to improve efficiency and manage spend.
  • Lead RFP/Q response evaluations in accordance with agreed criteria to achieve 'best value for money' propositions and drive efficiency and productivity for clients.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A minimum of 5 years in a defence contracts management role, establishing, managing, and closing out contracts in the defence industry.
  • Extensive experience using ASDEFCON contract suite, particularly demonstrated knowledge of IP, defence security, cost principles, confidentiality, liabilities, and indemnities, schedule, and termination-related clauses.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the 'end-to-end' defence contracts management process and experience in strategic delivery of complex, defence contracts.
  • Preparation and presentation of slide decks for internal gate reviews as well as at client reviews.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven commercial acumen with the ability to recognize issues and identify key risk areas.
  • Proven ability to manage internal and external stakeholders and build effective relationships.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of relevant contract law and proven experience providing briefings and working closely with legal counsels on contractual and other operational matters, as required.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Australian and US Government Export control processes.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related discipline.
