Job Overview

The Engineering Lead is a pivotal role in shaping the digital infrastructure of a prominent National Energy Analysis Centre. As leader of the engineering team, you will play a key part in driving planning, design, and implementation.

You will be responsible for leading the engineering architecture, design, and development of the centre's digital presence. This includes collaborating with the founding team on science translation, product direction, market feedback, and platform evolution. Additionally, you will coordinate and lead a high-performance development team, including internal resources, contractors, development agencies, and other external contributors.

Your duties will include ensuring platform scalability, security, and performance as users onboard, features expand, and advanced analytical workflows are implemented. You will also stay informed about energy data standards, emerging technologies, and research needs to guide innovation.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in a relevant field such as computer science or software engineering, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and research experience. They will also have meaningful leadership experience in software development, including engineering leadership or senior engineering roles delivering complex platform projects.

Key skills and qualifications include:

  • Full-stack development skills (e.g., Python, Node.js, TypeScript, React, or similar)
  • Experience designing and implementing scalable data platforms, APIs, and cloud-based systems (e.g. AWS, GCP) to a level of commercial product quality and robustness
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a purpose-driven, customer-focused agile team

The successful candidate will be deeply involved in both strategy and execution, combining technical expertise with strong interpersonal skills to foster collaboration and deliver real impact.
