The position of a Clinical Nurse Consultant involves working in the Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre and Emergency Department to provide expert clinical guidance on assessing and managing individuals presenting with acute mental health symptoms, co-morbid physical and mental health difficulties, and crisis situations requiring a mental health assessment.
This is a challenging role that requires strong leadership skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work autonomously within a multi-disciplinary team. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience post-registration in a mental health specialty, be registered with AHPRA, and possess a solid understanding of common medical and drug & alcohol related conditions that often co-occur with mental health needs.
- Providing comprehensive mental health assessments, risk assessments, admission and discharge planning, problem solving, and having a good understanding of common medical and drug & alcohol related conditions.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced mental health nurse who can contribute to our dynamic and fast-paced environment and has an interest in emergency mental health.

- Current registration with AHPRA and a minimum of 5 years post-registration experience in a mental health specialty.
- Sound knowledge and experience of assessing persons within an acute environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of nursing processes and their contributions to best practice principles.
- Proven clinical leadership skills in within the mental health program.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct a thorough mental health assessment, including formulation and development of immediate management plans and strategies.
- Competency in the use of information and communication technology for email, internet searches, analysis of clinical data, presentations, and clinical documentation.
- Excellent verbal communication skills and proficiency in documenting the outcome of assessments contemporaneously.
Key Responsibilities:
