The Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a qualified Accountant to become part of a dynamic local government organization. In this role, you will be tasked with delivering expert accounting support throughout the annual financial planning cycle, ensuring effective communication with Managers to clarify responsibilities within tight timelines.

You will be expected to produce precise and timely reports for stakeholders while keeping abreast of current legislation and accounting standards.

Your responsibilities will include providing professional guidance, support, and assistance related to financial accounting and management to meet the financial information requirements of both internal and external clients.

Candidate Profile

To qualify for this position, you should possess experience in the following areas:

  • Facilitating the coordination, preparation, and review of the annual budget and its revisions, including establishing outcomes and performance reporting.
  • Generating monthly management reports that include budget comparisons, detailed variance analysis, and accompanying commentary.
  • Delivering quality training and support in financial procedures, systems, processes, and general financial management.
  • Executing journal entries, including monthly revenue and expense accruals, internal charges, and prepayments.
  • Identifying and resolving transactional discrepancies impacting project expenditure reporting.
  • Assisting in the examination and resolution of internal accounting processes or control challenges.
  • Offering financial insights to inform decision-making and develop effective strategies for compliant cost management and optimal use of grants and related funding.
  • Engaging in additional tasks, projects, and analyses as required by management, including financial administration, grant acquittals, general ledger upkeep, and month-end reviews/journals.
  • Contributing to the formulation of financial and related business strategies to fulfill financial management and reporting needs.
  • Preparing reconciliations.
  • Supporting Operations with comprehensive financial reporting and project performance evaluations.

Highly Desirable Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business or Commerce (Accounting) is preferred.
  • Certification as a Practicing Accountant (CPA Australia) or Chartered Accountant (Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia) is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar capacity.
  • Proficiency in operating Tech 1 accounting software or the ability to quickly gain technical expertise in this system.
  • Demonstrated competency in Microsoft Excel.
