Wyndham Central College is a high-achieving institution located in the western metropolitan area of Melbourne, catering to students from Years 7 to 12. The college has undergone significant improvements, as reflected in recent data sets and strategic plans.
The staff at Wyndham Central are committed to delivering a rigorous and engaging curriculum, enhanced by the AVID program. This initiative aims to develop student strategies for learning and their chosen pathways. The college offers innovative programs, including a 7-10 Enrichment and VHAP program, a 7-10 Spanish Immersion Program (SIP), and a 9-10 STEM Academy.
A key aspect of the college's approach is the Careers Action Plan (CAP) and learning plan provided to all students from Year 7. This three-way partnership between students, teachers, and parents/carers plays a crucial role in student progress. An extensive tutor advocate and pastoral support program complements this approach.
The college boasts modern facilities, including a Trade Training Centre, a designated Year 7 Centre, and a Senior Years Centre. These facilities support the educational improvement plan and provide dedicated spaces for the performing and visual arts, Science, and STEM.
The Leadership Team consists of the Principal Team, Assistant Principals with dedicated leadership portfolios, Leading Teachers - Year Level Leaders (Engagement & Wellbeing), Literacy Leader, Numeracy Leader, Pathways & Transitions Leader, AVID pedagogy and operational Leaders, Senior Years Program Manager, and Campus Management Leader.
**Selection Criteria:**
SC1: Demonstrated knowledge of relevant curricula and capacity to incorporate literacy and numeracy skills, responding to student learning needs.
SC2: Ability to implement high-impact teaching strategies, guided by how students learn, and evaluate the impact of learning and teaching programs on student growth.
SC3: Capacity to monitor and assess student learning, using data to inform teaching practice and provide feedback on student growth and achievement.
SC4: Interpersonal and communication skills, establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the broader school community.
SC5: Behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values, reflecting upon practice and engaging in professional learning to improve teaching quality.
**Program Benefits:**
Range 1 classroom teachers will focus on further developing their skills and competencies to become effective classroom practitioners, with structured support and guidance from higher-level teachers. They will be responsible for planning, preparing, and teaching programs to achieve specific student outcomes.
At range 1, teachers participate in policy development, assist in implementing school priorities, teach their own classes, and may assist in project teams and co-curricular activities.
