AirTrunk's mission is to scale and sustain the digital future of the region by delivering hyperscale data centres that meet customer needs, sustainably.

The company has opened Australia's first and largest hyperscale data centres in Western Sydney and Melbourne since 2017. We've expanded across Asia Pacific, launching in Singapore, Hong Kong, Sydney North, and Japan, with a second Western Sydney data centre announced.

A Key Role

As Design Manager, you'll report to the Technical Director - Mechanical & Design and work closely with the Technology team:

  • Ensure timely and budget-friendly delivery to customers
  • Lead project technical design for various projects in Australia, collaborating with consultants and internal stakeholders
  • Develop unique solutions with hyperscale customers, engaging in concept design phases and scoping
  • Collaborate with the APAC AirTrunk Design team to drive innovation and challenge industry norms

Your Responsibilities

- Lead project design teams from inception to delivery of multi-MW hyperscale solutions

- Collaborate with top cloud and enterprise customers, communicating presentations on design aspects

- Develop high-level master planning, space planning, and engineering solutions for potential new developments

- Produce consultant briefs to develop designs through feasibility, concept, scheme, and detailed design stages

- Oversee the technical aspects of directly procured equipment and facilitate alignment with the design team

- Understand commercial implications of engineering decisions and develop designs within commercial boundaries

- Contribute to AirTrunk's internal technical learning and strategic projects

Requirements

  • Currently based in Sydney or Melbourne
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (electrical, mechanical, or industrial)
  • Experience working with architects, designers, and construction personnel in the Australian market
  • 2+ years of experience as a project design lead in a consultant or contractor role
  • Excellent communication skills, able to deliver presentations on data centre operations
  • Good understanding of multi-disciplinary building services design
  • Detailed design experience in building services, specifically mechanical systems
  • Previous hyperscale design and cloud experience in the APAC market an advantage
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced collaborative environment
  • Leadership acumen to manage multi-disciplinary teams across multiple geographies
