Community Development Specialist

As a Community Development Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in building relationships and creating opportunities for the First Nations community.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Identifying and developing key relationships, partnerships, and collaborations that promote reconciliation within the City and the broader community.
  • Leveraging local community assets to build the capacity of groups and organisations.
  • Coordinating and leading NAIDOC Week events.
  • Helping secure external funding for further projects.

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

Essential:

  • Qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or experience working in community development or a related field.
  • Substantial experience working with diverse community groups.
  • Experience and skills in building relationships within a First Nations community setting and strong networks within First Nations communities.
  • Connection to and understanding of First Nations cultures inclusive of history, traditional and contemporary values and protocols, and other issues relevant to First Nations communities in an urban setting.
  • Experience facilitating or coordinating First Nations-led and/or reconciliation initiatives in community settings and/or willingness to develop in this area.
  • Knowledge of various models of community development including Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) or willingness to learn.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, effective organisation and time management, conflict resolution and negotiation abilities, excellent customer service, and the capacity to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Current Police Clearance.
  • Current Working with Children Check.

Desirable:

  • Provide First Aid qualification or willingness to obtain.
  • Current 'C' Class driver licence.
