Job Description:

Temp Station is seeking a skilled Customs Coordinator to join a busy freight forwarding client in the Normanton area on a permanent basis.

  • The primary role involves coordinating the import and export of products and components in and out of the UK, ensuring compliance with all applicable import and export regulations.

This includes planning transports in the most cost and time-efficient manner, as well as handling day-to-day customs clearance operations by liaising with international operators.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  1. Handling customs clearance operations by liaising with international operators.
  2. Updating internal customs systems.
  3. Requesting or compiling necessary Export or Import documentation, such as customs invoices, certificates of origin, and cargo-control documents.
  4. Clearing goods through customs using paperwork provided by the international operator.
  5. Calculating duty and tariff payments owed on shipments.
  6. Advising internal operators on import and export restrictions, tariff systems, insurance requirements, quotas, or other customs-related matters.
  7. Confering with officials in various agencies to facilitate clearance of goods through customs and quarantine.
  8. Maintaining proactive inter-departmental coordination to process shipments on time.
  9. Attending to queries and proactively updating internal operators on the status of their shipments.
  10. Invoicing internally all custom-processed shipments on a weekly basis.
  11. Keeping records of all shipments that have issues and ensuring all processes are followed and closed out case by case where required.
  12. Ensuring internal operators comply with all aspects of Customs Clearance and follow procedures according to internal operating procedures.
  13. Escalating any internal issues to managers immediately.
  14. Being prepared to deal directly with external operators/customs as and when required to do so.
  15. Using Destin8 to claim trailers, renominate UCN's and ensure all consignments are cleared before rent charges occur.
  16. Liaising with external brokers to ensure their clearances do not hold any of our trailers at port.
  17. Creating IPAFF documents for any goods that require them.
  18. Cooperating with Border Force requests immediately and sufficiently.
Requirements:

  • Good team player with ability to work on individual tasks.
  • Ambitious with a view to progress within the company.
