About the Role

The Senior Detection and Response Engineer is a critical position that collaborates and challenges the formation and execution of strategic cyber defence initiatives. The role involves technical stewardship, influencing outcomes, and driving the improvement of defensive cyber security capabilities.

  • Evolving the Optus detection and response capability, including threat hunting, purple teaming, detection engineering, cyber incident management, threat intelligence, and ongoing development of people, process, and technologies.
  • Helping shape the Optus Cyber Threat detection capability, integrating tightly with broader Cyber defence functions.
  • Driving the continued improvement of Defensive Cyber Security capability, including participating in planning and development of supporting reasons for further investment.
  • Managing Cyber Security incident response activities, including developing strategies to contain and resolve incidents.

This role requires strong technical expertise in threat hunting, incident management, detection engineering, and CI/CD. You will also need extensive experience in cyber security risk management, transformation, and project management.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Relevant professional qualifications in computer science, information systems, engineering, cyber security, or other applicable fields.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in cyber security risk management, transformation, and managing complex projects.
  • Deep understanding of malware families, evolution, indicators, TTPs, and how to apply them to advise key business partners on attack chains and exploits.
  • Expert knowledge of the cyber threat landscape, threat intelligence, detection engineering, incident management, and forensics.
  • Strong understanding of Python, automation, and engineering deployment pipelines.
  • Technical mentoring ability with a track record in delivering strong engineering-focused solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills with the ability to work with customers across different functions, colleagues, and partners.
