About the Role

The New Zealand Defence Force is seeking a skilled and dedicated individual to fill the role of Seamanship Combat Specialist. This position requires a strong understanding of naval operations, combat tactics, and seamanship procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct ship driving and lookout duties on the bridge
  • Participate in replenishments at sea, transferring fuel and equipment between ships
  • Crew the ship's RHIB during Man Overboard drills
  • Be a member of a ship's firefighting team
  • Conduct boarding and ship protection operations
  • Fire a .50 calibre machine gun and other small arms weapons
  • Assist other members of the ship in the use of small arms weapons
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks

Career Progression and Training

As a Seamanship Combat Specialist, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge through a range of training programs and on-the-job experience. You will work closely with experienced personnel to develop your seamanship and combat skills, and will have the opportunity to take on leadership roles and responsibilities as you progress in your career.

Requirements

  • Be a minimum of 17 years of age upon entry
  • Be free of any criminal conviction for the previous two years
  • Have a strong understanding of naval operations and combat tactics
  • Be physically fit and able to pass a medical examination
