Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Legal Officer to support our team in reviewing and interpreting legislation, as well as addressing legal and regulatory issues.

The successful candidate will work closely with our Senior Legal Counsels and Legal Counsels to ensure the consistent interpretation and application of legislation relating to the Coal Long Service Leave Scheme.

  • Participate in providing legal advice to the organisation under the guidance of a Senior Legal Counsel, focusing on legal authority relating to employer compliance under the Coal LSL scheme and the implementation of regulatory and administrative processes by Coal LSL.
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of the legislative regime and legal authority that governs the Coal LSL scheme.
  • Complete allocated tasks to a high standard including seeking and responding to appropriate guidance and proactively reporting on progress.
  • Assist with evidence review, undertake legal research and analysis and prepare clear concise memorandums and correspondence, under the guidance of a Senior Legal Counsel.
  • Actively contribute to the engagement with employers and employees concerning legal and regulatory issues.
  • Liaise with external legal providers by preparing and overseeing briefs, reviewing advice and supporting its practical interpretation and application.
