Role Overview

  • Peer Workers provide a range of engagement, support and information to participants and Case Workers through the perspective of relatable lived experiences.
Key Responsibilities
  • Enhance the facilitation of the General Court Intervention Program (GCIP) and assist participants to meaningfully engage in the program.
  • Draw on knowledge and experience of living with and through social and cultural identities and/or experiences.
  • Use personal experience to inform work and the work of the service.
  • Self-manage using demonstrated strategies.
  • Share experience and narrative in a positive way.
  • Work with people from diverse backgrounds including culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Noteable experience and progression of personal experience in one or more of the following areas: criminogenic or justice related experience, cultural and community experience, alcohol and other drugs, mental health, housing crisis, and other areas which create recognition by participants as a peer.
  • Able and willing to use experience to inform work and the work of the service.
  • Demonstrated adoption of strategies to self-manage.
  • Vocational or life experience displaying the ability to share experience and narrative in a positive way.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
