We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional to join our environmental monitoring team as an Assistant Hydrographer. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about science and data analysis to build a rewarding career.

The Role

As an Assistant Hydrographer, you will be responsible for collecting and verifying environmental data using various software packages and scientific instruments. You will also be involved in the maintenance of remote environmental monitoring sites, consisting mainly of stream flow monitoring stations.

You will work closely with the team to ensure accurate record-keeping, including field notes, photographs, and maps. Additionally, you will assist in the upgrade of old and installation of new environmental monitoring stations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect and verify environmental data using various software packages and scientific instruments
  • Maintenance of remote environmental monitoring sites, consisting mainly of stream flow monitoring stations
  • Accurate record-keeping, including field notes, photographs, and maps
  • Assisting in the upgrade of old and installation of new environmental monitoring stations
The Essentials
  • Tertiary qualification in environmental science, water resources, or similar (desirable)
  • High-level attention to detail, strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Professional oral and written communication skills
  • Able to work cohesively in a team environment
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Able to work in a variety of environmental conditions including short periods away from home
  • Ability to perform manual handling tasks in a wide range of outdoor conditions
  • Some experience in the use of hand and power tools
  • Current manual car driver's licence
  • 4WD experience
  • Experience with health, safety, and environmental aspects of field work
  • Ability to swim
