About the Role

The Senior Business Strategist will play a crucial role in shaping the Australia Retail division's business strategy, ensuring it remains competitive and aligned with organisational goals.

This role involves developing, defining, and evaluating the division's medium to long-term strategy, as well as managing trade-offs and considering external market forces.

You will work closely with other strategic leads across the division to ensure a holistic approach to strategy and transformation.

Banking is undergoing significant changes, and we're adapting to these shifts. This presents great opportunities for our team members to try new things, learn, and grow.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy Development: Develop and evolve the division's strategy in consultation with key stakeholders. Research industry trends and macro influences to form a competitive strategy that aligns with organisational goals.
  • Quantify Strategy Trade-Offs: Rationalise and quantify the prioritisations and trade-offs required, working in collaboration with Delivery & Investment Management and Performance Management.
  • Strategy Risk Assessment: Monitor, track, and ensure the realisation of the division's strategy and priorities, managing associated risks.
  • Team Leadership: Play a key leadership role in the Strategy team, responsible for leading key deliverables and uplifting team performance.

  • Banking Knowledge: A deep understanding of retail banking operations, value creation, and how industry dynamics shape strategy.
  • Stakeholder Management: Ability to manage multiple stakeholders across complex topics.
  • Commercial Acumen: High financial literacy and ability to read financial statements, recognising how actions impact profitability and revenue.
  • Communication Skills: Extensive experience communicating complex ideas to senior audiences.
  • Collaboration: Working with others to solve business problems with empathy and joint problem-solving.
  • Results Orientation: Delivering results from strategy formulation and ensuring stakeholders buy into actionable plans.
  • Values-Driven: Driven by values and purpose to influence and work through others.
