Lead Embedded Systems Engineer

Position Overview

GoPro is on the lookout for an exceptional Firmware Engineer to become a vital part of their pioneering engineering group focused on developing technologically advanced motorcycle helmets at Sydney Motorsport Park. In this role, you will be tasked with taking the smart helmets from initial concept through to full production. Collaboration with electrical engineering teams will be essential to deliver the firmware that powers the hardware.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and develop proof-of-concept projects for upcoming product technologies
  • Analyze and interpret product specifications and features
  • Create, integrate, and validate firmware modules for new products
  • Work in close partnership with hardware teams and chip manufacturers to establish and confirm hardware functionality
  • Coordinate with international firmware teams to direct and synchronize the firmware development process according to established architecture

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science; Master's degree preferred
  • Over 15 years of practical experience in embedded software/firmware development
  • Proficient in C programming and embedded firmware development for consumer electronics
  • Deep understanding of embedded system RTOS such as Linux, ThreadX, uItron, etc.
  • Familiarity with hardware components
  • Capable of working autonomously with minimal guidance, while being a strong team collaborator

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with hardware interfaces such as I2C, SPI, SDIO, JTAG, UART, I2S, USB, etc.
  • Skilled in all software levels, from low-level interrupt handling and device drivers to high-level media applications
  • Knowledge of communication concepts: message queues, IPC, etc.
