Position Overview
GoPro is on the lookout for an exceptional Firmware Engineer to become a part of their forward-thinking engineering group focused on developing technologically advanced motorcycle helmets at Sydney Motorsport Park. In this role, you will be tasked with taking smart helmets from initial concept through to production. You will collaborate closely with electrical engineering teams to deliver the firmware that powers the hardware.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research and develop proof-of-concept projects for upcoming product technologies
- Analyze and interpret product specifications and features
- Create, integrate, and validate firmware modules for new products
- Work in tandem with hardware teams and chip manufacturers to initiate and confirm hardware functionality
- Coordinate with international firmware teams to oversee and direct the firmware development process based on established architecture
Desired Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science; Master's degree preferred
- Over 15 years of practical experience in embedded software/firmware development
- Proficient in C programming and embedded firmware development for consumer electronics
- Deep understanding of embedded system RTOS such as Linux, ThreadX, uItron, etc.
- Familiarity with hardware components
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision while being a collaborative team member
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with hardware interfaces like I2C, SPI, SDIO, JTAG, UART, I2S, USB, etc.
- Skilled in all software levels, from low-level interrupt handling and device drivers to high-level media applications
- Knowledge of communication concepts such as message queues and IPC
