Senior Mechanical Engineer

SIMEC Mining, part of GFG Alliance, is committed to leading the decarbonisation of the steel industry. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in this ambitious project.
Reporting to the Principal Engineer Growth Studies, you will provide technical support and governance to a portfolio of major growth studies and projects. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing mechanical engineering support and governance to a portfolio of projects to meet the Whyalla Transformation business needs
- Developing mechanical discipline technical standards and standard specifications for project applications across the portfolio
- Contributing to the development of project delivery systems to support consistent technical delivery of projects and application of standards
- Establishing and supporting the technical risk analysis and Safety in Design processes for the project portfolio
- Auditing design work presented by vendors to ensure it meets and complies with the specified scopes outlined in the contract
- Assessing design compliance with the relevant Australian Standards as well as SIMEC Mining's engineering and quality standards
- Providing technical reviews of bids for engineering and construction services and equipment, as well as recommendations for selection
- Reviewing construction methodologies to ensure they are consistent with SIMEC's Mining expectations for safe construction and operating outcomes
- Encouraging a collaborative and high-performing work culture of continuous improvement and supporting the delivery of strategic objectives
Our ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and collaborative individual with the ability to think conceptually and strategically. They will also have:
- Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Senior level experience in mining, minerals processing, and metals industries
- Engineers Australia Chartered Professional Engineer
- Engineering information and data management systems experience
- A solid understanding of technical project definition and safety in design practices
- Report writing and other aspects of technical writing, such as manuals and procedures
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
