About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our team at Aveo. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to take on a challenging role and contribute to the success of our business.

Job Description

The Senior Legal Counsel will be responsible for providing expert legal advice and support to our retirement villages across Australia. This includes reviewing and drafting contracts, managing disputes, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

You will work closely with our General Counsel and Company Secretary to deliver high-quality internal legal services that meet the needs of our business.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including residents, regional operations managers, and external lawyers.

You will also be responsible for identifying risks and opportunities, and developing strategies to mitigate these risks and capitalize on new opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert legal advice and support to our retirement villages
  • Review and draft contracts, agreements, and other legal documents
  • Manage disputes and resolve issues related to resident contracts and tenancies
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including those related to retirement villages and aged care
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
  • Identify risks and opportunities, and develop strategies to mitigate risks and capitalize on new opportunities
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B or equivalent)
  • A current practicing certificate as a solicitor in Australia
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in in-house legal teams, preferably in a top-tier law firm
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to critically review complex legal documents and provide clear, concise advice
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues, residents, and external stakeholders
