Job Title: Deputy Head of Set Construction

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled professional to join our team as a Deputy Head of Set Construction. This is a permanent full-time role, with usual hours of 38 per week.

About the Role

The Deputy Head of Set Construction reports directly to the Set Construction Manager and is responsible for delivering set construction outcomes as required by STC and directed by the Set Construction Manager.

This involves working in both workshop and theatre settings, including the Sydney Opera House, Roslyn Packer Theatre, Wharf Theatres, and various touring venues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee the delivery of set construction projects
  • Collaborate with the Set Construction Manager to ensure successful project outcomes
  • Develop and implement effective plans and schedules to meet project deadlines
  • Provide leadership and guidance to team members
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Proven experience in theatrical scenery construction management within a large-scale arts organisation or commercial scenery manufacturing environment
  • Highly developed understanding of carpentry and metal fabrication
  • Excellent planning, organisation and scheduling skills within a scenery-manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • A self-starter approach with ability to troubleshoot and improve processes and systems
  • Strong understanding of industrial relations and WHS legislative and regulatory frameworks applicable to the live performance industry
  • Proven leadership skills with capacity to determine priorities and monitor performance
