Policy Specialist

Contribute to the development of policies and processes that address biosecurity challenges in Australia.

About the Role:

The Policy Officer will be responsible for engaging with government and industry stakeholders to manage biosecurity risk both domestically and internationally.

This role involves working closely with various stakeholders to design, develop, and implement policy initiatives that align with the department's strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking research, analysing information, interpreting legislation and compliance frameworks, and making recommendations to support policy development.
  • Providing advice and technical expertise in biosecurity treatment related areas.
  • Collaborating with government and non-government stakeholders to develop harmonized biosecurity treatments.
  • Creating high-quality written material including work instructions, project plans, minutes, discussion papers, and reports.
Requirements:

Applicants should have experience in policy or program design and development, including researching and sourcing key information to inform decision-making.

They should also have a proven track record of producing instructional material and corresponding with internal and external stakeholders.

Additionally, applicants should possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and negotiate with expert groups and various stakeholders.
