Program Management Committee Chair: Key Responsibilities
The Program Management Committee (PMC) is a key governance body in Australia, responsible for overseeing the newborn bloodspot screening program. As the PMC Chair, you will play a critical role in leading and facilitating discussions to ensure effective decision-making and coordination across all jurisdictions.
Some of your key responsibilities as PMC Chair include:
- Chairing monthly virtual meetings to ensure good governance and adherence to proper process.
- Leading discussions to ensure members provide timely advice on matters requiring PMC consideration during meetings.
- Participating in pre-meeting preparation activities, including briefings with the department and secretariat.
- Reviewing and approving committee papers and communications, including agenda papers and meeting minutes.
- Managing any conflicts of interests declared by members, with support from the secretariat.
Time commitment for this role is estimated to be between 5-10 hours per meeting, with some flexibility depending on the nature of items being considered.
Key qualifications for the ideal candidate include experience chairing government committees, particularly those engaging with technical and complex health content. Strong verbal communication skills and ability to facilitate equitable and balanced discussions are essential. Additionally, experience in coordinating diverse perspectives to form a consensus outcome is highly valued.
Candidates must be an Australian citizen residing in Australia and able to commit to a 2-year term. Eligible candidates will undergo a selection process, which includes submitting an expression of interest, providing professional referees, and declaring any real or perceived conflicts of interest.
