Job Title: Compliance Officer

About the role:

  • We are seeking a highly experienced professional with expertise in high-risk environments to join our team.

This is a frontline role providing assurance and guidance on compliance with safety, security, environmental, and quality requirements across all maintenance and construction works.

You will work on-site to ensure that contractors adhere to WHS obligations while managing interface risks and maintaining operational readiness.

  • Inspections & Audits: Conduct inspections and audits during day and night shifts to verify compliance.
  • Contractor Oversight: Monitor contractor adherence to safety, quality, environmental, and security standards.
  • Risk Management:
    • Provide advice and coaching on risk controls to minimize potential hazards.
    • Participate in workshops, toolbox talks, and pre-start briefings to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Documentation Review: Assess contractor SWMS, Safety and Quality Management Plans, and permits for adherence to regulations.
  • Coordination & Interface Management: Support coordination between projects, maintenance, and operations teams.
  • Post-Curfew Activities: Assist with return-to-service tasks after curfew periods to ensure smooth operations.
  • Critical Risk Program: Contribute to implementing Sydney Airport's Critical Risk Program, including assurance processes.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for ongoing improvement and implement initiatives to enhance performance.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to Australian Standards, NCC/BCA, and WHS legislation.
About You
  • Tertiary qualifications in construction, engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in construction supervision or compliance roles, preferably with knowledge of WHS legislation and QA systems.
  • Strong understanding of risk management principles, incident response, and contractor engagement.
  • Able to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and permits.
  • Familiarity with Australian construction standards, such as BCA and NCC.
  • Understanding of contractor management, construction safety, and high-risk work frameworks.
  • WHS or Lead Auditor certification is an advantage.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work rotating shifts and manage competing priorities.
  • Customer-focused with a commitment to service delivery.
