Job Title: Research Associate

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Associate to join our team in an exciting opportunity for interdisciplinary research on improving the economic and environmental sustainability of the electricity market.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data analysis and modelling, as well as experience with open-source tools and programming languages. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling and analysing large real-world datasets from various sources, including rooftop PV, batteries, and electric vehicles.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting data analysis and modelling using energy systems data;
  • Developing open-source tools to assist in managing and planning operations for consumer energy resources;
  • Creating data visualisations to understand the value of consumer energy resources and identify challenges associated with increasing penetration in distribution networks;
  • Engaging with industry partners through regular meetings, presentations, and reports;

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A PhD or equivalent research experience in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience;
  • Experience in technical and economic modelling of renewable generation or distributed energy resources, including energy storage and demand-side participation, and understanding of distribution network implications and integration into electricity industry operation or planning;
  • Expertise in analysis and modelling using large energy-related data sets, including formal statistical analysis and machine learning techniques;
  • Independent researcher with ability to drive and progress project tasks, proactive and innovative mindset;
  • Ability to work in a team and build relationships; strong interpersonal and stakeholder communication skills;
