Senior Cloud Operations Engineer - Job Summary

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Cloud Operations Engineer to join our team in Melbourne.

This role involves providing support, delivery and ongoing enhancement of operational services, lifecycle and compliance management, monitoring and optimisation of cloud-based infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Azure services, experience in scripting and automation (PowerShell, Python), cloud-native technologies (Kubernetes, Databricks, APIM) and contribution to cost optimisation and operational best practices.

  • Provide technical support for operational services to meet defined service levels in support of cloud hosted solutions.
  • Manage the lifecycle of cloud services to ensure supportability, security and compliance policies are met.
  • Implement automation to improve scalability, reliability, compliance, and efficiency of cloud infrastructure.
  • Optimise cloud operating expenses by ensuring ongoing improvement of Cost analysis, Tagging, Budgeting, Anomaly Detection.
  • Automate routine/day-to-day cloud operational tasks, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts (KQL, PowerShell and Python) and streamline operational processes, ensuring adherence to best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Support the development of Azure policies and associated operational procedures for cloud operational governance.
  • Drive consistent standards and approaches to create clean, well-structured, and documented solutions and processes.
Key Responsibilities
  • Cloud Operations: Ensure the efficient operation of cloud-based infrastructure, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving issues.
  • Azure Services: Provide expert-level support for Azure services, including deployment, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Automation: Implement automation scripts to streamline operational processes, improve efficiency, and reduce manual intervention.
  • Cost Optimisation: Identify opportunities to optimise cloud operating expenses through cost analysis, tagging, budgeting, and anomaly detection.
  • Compliance: Ensure all cloud services are compliant with relevant policies, regulations, and standards.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in cloud operations, with a focus on Azure.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security principles and compliance requirements.
  • Proficient in KQL for querying Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.
  • Experience in scripting (PowerShell & Python) and automation tools for infrastructure-as-code and deployment/operations automation.
  • Knowledge of cloud-native technologies, such as Kubernetes, Databricks, and APIM.
  • Azure certifications (AZ-400, AZ-104, or AZ-305) are highly desirable.
