Job Overview:
A key role exists for an Analyst - Forecasting Expert to join our Operational Support division. This team plays a vital part in the real-time electricity system operations across Australia, supporting AEMO's control rooms through data delivery, systems, training, assessment and operational planning advice.

The Operational Forecasting team is responsible for short-term forecasts that feed into key operational and market systems. These forecasts are essential for supporting network outage planning, reliability assessments, and real-time operational decision-making. Our team is known globally for its leadership in short-term forecasting practices. As we move forward, we're looking to expand our capability to keep up with the complexity of forecasting an increasingly weather-dependent power system.

About Your Role:
You will support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of forecast models for electricity demand, distributed photovoltaics (PV), and variable renewable energy generation central to our market systems. Key responsibilities include managing operational forecasting models, working closely with weather providers and control rooms, coordinating across teams and markets, contributing to operational advisories, and supporting upgrades of forecasting applications.

Key Skills and Qualifications:
We're seeking candidates with tertiary qualifications in science, engineering, mathematics, meteorology or a related statistical discipline. Relevant experience in the energy sector or similar industry is also required. You should possess clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal, along with working knowledge of data analysis and statistical modeling techniques. Strong teamwork and project management skills are essential for success in this role.
