This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with our organization and make a positive impact in the lives of refugees and asylum seekers.
We are seeking a skilled Community Support Worker to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing direct practical support to consumers, assisting them in improving and maintaining their independent living skills.
Key responsibilities include developing, implementing, and reviewing person-centred, individualised support plans for consumers that are holistic, culturally appropriate and trauma informed. The successful candidate will also work closely with New Horizons and NSW Health clinicians to deliver comprehensive services to consumers.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to facilitate consumer access to education, vocational training and employment opportunities. You will also engage in consumer advocacy and/or assist consumers to develop self-advocacy skills and strategies.
The ideal candidate will possess qualifications in Mental Health, Social Work, Social Welfare or other relevant social science or behavioural disciplines, or significant relevant experience. They will also have demonstrated understanding of issues affecting refugees and asylum seekers and the effects of trauma on individuals, young people, families, and communities.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Qualifications in Mental Health, Social Work, Social Welfare or other relevant social science or behavioural disciplines
- Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting refugees and asylum seekers and the effects of trauma on individuals, young people, families, and communities
- Knowledge of the cultures and health needs of refugee communities
- Demonstrated knowledge and an ability to engage with the NSW Health and Social Services sector
- Technical literacy with proven ability to use Microsoft Office and systems for reporting
