Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Cost Estimator to lead our team and provide project cost estimation services for all stages of Delivery Management projects.

The purpose of the position is to build and maintain competitive pricing schedule databases, and ensure that WHS, Community and environmental issues are integrated into the development of cost plans. Developing cost estimates on projects of values between $100k - over $1bn.

This role requires managing a heavy workload with tight deadlines and competing commitments and priorities which require negotiating and continual re-prioritising of own work.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare project estimates ensuring they are in accordance with industry best practice but in strict adherence to company processes and procedures.
  • Accurately determine the total cost of materials, labour, and equipment required for large and complex construction projects.
  • Prepare and analyse the indirect and overhead cost using prescribed staff rates or develop reasonable and demonstrable benchmark rates as required.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders to ensure the required information is obtained.
  • Develop Cost Plans and Cost Estimates for price build and contract documentation.
  • Obtain market price for the specialist contractors and supply of materials by preparing documents for tendering and bid purposes.
  • Provide expert support on pre-qualification and pre-bid submissions.
  • Ensure that relevant documents and budgets are submitted before a bid deadlines.
  • Perform cost analyses on contractor pricing submissions, determine the duration of a project, procure vendors and subcontractors, and ensure that resources are managed, and deadlines are met.
  • Support the building and maintenance of competitive pricing schedule databases, and ensuring that WHS, Community and environmental issues are integrated into the development of cost plans.
  • Support benchmarking and cost analysis function as required.
  • Regularly report to management and keeping stakeholders updated on the project status.
Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil or Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or an equivalent.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as an estimator in the construction field with demonstrable experience in the water industry or other highly regulated industry desirable.
  • Extensive knowledge of best industry practices and standards.
  • Demonstrable experience of construction site working and construction logistics.
  • Experience of working in highly regulated environments under strict HS&E codes.
  • Experience in research, proposal writing, and oral presentation to senior management, external stakeholders, regulatory bodies and agencies.
  • Demonstrable interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced computer skills and ability to use estimating and measurement software accurately and quickly.
  • Proven business acumen and experience in driving innovation and best practice in cost estimation.
