Design Engineer - Starbase Operations

Our team is working on developing innovative solutions for the next generation of space travel.

  • Develop comprehensive design concepts and size vehicle structures based on flight loads, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional peers to balance mass, cost, and capability requirements, driving successful project outcomes.
  • Create detailed designs and computer-aided design (CAD) models in NX for components, assemblies, and vehicle integration, utilizing industry-leading tools.
  • Analyze structures using finite element methods (FEM) to assess their performance, providing actionable insights for design refinement.
  • Rapidly evaluate and iterate on designs using first-order hand calculations and empirical formulas, streamlining the design process.
  • Validate designs through thorough testing and validation, ensuring adherence to industry standards and specifications.
  • Perform structural testing on subassemblies and full sections of the airframe, maintaining high-quality products.
  • Partner with build engineers and technicians to enhance designs, fostering a collaborative environment.
Key Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in an engineering discipline or related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in mechanical design and analysis, with expertise in designing, analyzing, building, and testing complex mechanical systems.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Proficiency in material selection and manufacturing methods, ensuring efficient product development.
  • Advanced knowledge of analytical/scientific programming languages (e.g., Python, Matlab, Excel), facilitating data analysis and visualization.
